Chengdu Weather

The gentle and humid weather experienced at Chengdu made it “the country of heaven” where the cotton-rose hibiscus abounds. There are frequent rains in Chengdu mostly during the summer months, and therefore, occasional sunshine periods can be experienced all throughout the year. Cloudy skies are a common daily occurrence. In a year, Chengdu city experiences short winters and longer summers; the Qing Ling mountains at the north of this city acts as wind breakers from the cold Siberian winds during the winter season. Hence, if not for these mountains, then Chengdu would experience very cold winters too. For the most of the history of China, this place has always been abundant in natural resources, a long term effect of this mild climate, and people have favored to settle down to this place for a long time. History has noted down the first emperor’s project in 256 BC, which is to lead the construction of the Dujiangyan irrigation, as part of his move to make Chengdu as the capital of the Sichuan province. This emperor has undeniably succeeded, and throughout time, the city of Chengdu has always retained its position as a provincial capital and its mild weather in the region contributes to its progress.
